Oklahoma City National Memorial

Went to the National Memorial in Oklahoma City. this is a must see if in the area. It%26#39;s hard to keep a dry eye while walking along the fence with all the items placed there. While there make sure you catch the rangers talk at the survivor tree. Very well done and presented. We also spent time in the Brickyard.Nice area with lots of restaurants but not a lot else to do there.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to our city.

It%26#39;s true that Bricktown is mostly a restaurant/entertainment district as opposed to a tourist spot.

But the Bricktown Blues and BBQ festival is in ten days. And the Red Earth Festival is at the Cox Center this weekend (one block west).

Also, the Bricktown Ballroom has several concerts scheduled (Teddy Geiger, Corey Smith and the Whigs with Rose Hill Drive are three of the shows all in June.)

Add to that the Yard Dawgz Arena Football (Ford Center) and Redhawks baseball (Bricktown Ballpark) games.

For general entertainment, in Bricktown there is the water taxi, and within a few blocks (and/or a short trolley ride) in addition to the Memorial is the OKC Museum of Art and the Oklahoma River with walking trails and several boating/rowing events during the course of the year.

And of course, the Myriad Gardens with the Crystal Bridge Botanical Gardens and the City Arts Center are also a short walk away (two or three blocks).

So, there really is a lot to do - depending of course when you are here and what you enjoy doing.

Excellent post, modcon!

Thanks Sofibella!

In reality, Bricktown is pretty small (the same can be said for Dallas%26#39; West End) and the main focus is bars and restaurants. But around Bricktown there is plenty to keep someone busy for a few days.

There doesn%26#39;t seem to be a single website that covers it all, but a couple of good ones are http://www.keyokc.com/attractions.html and

…about.com/od/attractionsandevents/Attractio…

Neither covers it all, but they have a lot - and also list different ';temporary'; events.

:)

Yes, you guys are doing a great job pointing out wonderful things to do in our great city! Don%26#39;t forget the Oklahoma City Museum of Art which is just west of the Bricktown and Myriad botanical gardens area. They have one of the largest exhibits of Chihuly (sp?) glass in the US.

We visited the memorial during the day, and came back at night. Different look at night....very peaceful.........

modcon is so helpful!

Iwent to the Memorial and Museum too, and I cried like a baby. Not ashamed either.

I took modcon%26#39;s advice and stayed in Bricktown. I enjoyed it a lot. I%26#39;ll be back next weekend. I%26#39;ve booked a room at Rusty Gables. I%26#39;ll send on the 411 when I get there.
