Road Trip - in Tulsa for 1 day in July...

Hi all! I%26#39;ll be traveling from Chicago to Ft. Worth, Texas with 3 boys (13, 10 and 7) we%26#39;re planning on stopping in St. Louis for a day, then Tulsa for a day and then will be in Ft. Worth area for a week, then we%26#39;ll head home through Shreveport, Memphis, etc! We%26#39;re very excited!

There seem to be quite a few great attractions in Tulsa for families. I have never been to Oklahoma so I truly don%26#39;t know where to begin! I%26#39;m hoping the lovely people here can help suggest some great ideas to fill our day in Tulsa! Is Wooloroc pretty great? The 2 youngest are wild about nature, animals, etc! Are there hotels near there that you can recommend?

Thank you all very much!

I%26#39;m sorry, I didn%26#39;t see this first.

Wooloroc would be an excellent choice for a day trip. It would consume most of your day. I doubt if there are hotels in that area, I may have to go look at a map, it may even be closer to Bartlesville.

In that case, I would probably choose a hotel that had the kinds of activities that you enjoy, like a pool, and not worry about proximity because it won%26#39;t make that much difference.

We have a really nice zoo here, though it%26#39;s not all that large it does have a lot of atractions (new elephant exhibit, a rain forest exhibit, often a traveling exhibition).

There%26#39;s the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks, also a good kid venue, with a hotel in walking distance.

We also have a children%26#39;s museum and an air %26amp; space museum with planetarium. So there are a lot of things to do.

Woolaroc would be a fun trip, but it would take the day. No hotels/motels nearby; Bartlesville is a little closer though not a lot closer.

Another different venue would be the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve, run by the Nature Conservancy. It%26#39;s about 60 miles outside of Tulsa (near Pawhuska); they have a docent program and if you call the office well in advance you might be able to arrange a special tour. Just google ';oklahoma tall grass prairie preserve'; or ';nature conservancy tulsa'; and you%26#39;ll find links that will get you to the right page--or try this link nature.org/wherewework/…tallgrass.html

Hope you have a great time on your trip; it sounds like you%26#39;re really making an effort to make it fun for your family!

I%26#39;m thinking the aquarium might be a huge hit...especially with a hotel nearby! I did a bit of research on Jenks area and it seems like it may make a good base for our short time in Tulsa!

Off to read the other responses in my other thread!

Thanks all!
