Crime rate in Tulsa ?

I was looking online at a news station from Tulsa and they reported 12 murders in six weeks. They interviewed a woman who moved from a area of Tulsa to the south side after saying at dark it was unsafe and she wouldnt let her kids out alone no matter what time. I am thinking of buying in Tulsa, and am concerened. Please note I know ALL cities have problems but does anyone think Tulsa is worse them most and is the city being active in combating crime ? The article reported the city is low on officers. Thanks..and again this isnt meant to ';rag'; on Tulsa

Crime rate in Tulsa ?

Runnerguy...Lived in S. Tulsa for 2 years from 1999-2000....The northside of the city is where most of the violent crimes occur with gangs etc...but the entire south half enjoys very little crime...would absolutely recommend buying in S. Tulsa...would think those murders were an aberration....just buy south or in the burbs surrounding S. Tulsa

Tulsa PD has an interactive crime map. Just search around and you can find it, I%26#39;m sure. Doesn%26#39;t show the %26#39;burbs, but you%26#39;ll notice most of the serious stuff is north of 64/244.

Have lived in Tulsa since 1956. Latest crime spree is 90%+ drug or acquaintance related; not stranger-murders. I live %26amp; work downtown. Tulsa is great place to live, inexpensive, easy to get around, beautiful city, good art scene, lots of live music.

Check the stats, Tulsa%26#39;s crime rate is twice the national average. That said, south Tulsa is pretty quiet (Broken Arrow and Owasso are OK as well).

30 year resident of Tulsa here. That statistic is surprising to me. As others have said, there is an area of Tulsa north of Admiral that has been considered rougher for as long as I can remember, but it is not an area you need to enter unless you so choose - and I know many Tulsans who don%26#39;t. That said, my husband and I often eat at some terrific restaurants there, and have never felt threatened. I also did some volunteer legal work a couple of years ago, and as a young female went by myself into homes on the north side and did not feel uncomfortable.

I think most cities see an increase in overall crime when the economy takes a downturn - unfortunately, people become more desperate and at the same time less money is available for police protection. I still feel very safe in all areas of Tulsa, especially compared to other large cities. I see no reason you should be doubting your decision to move here, and you don%26#39;t have to confine yourself to ';South Tulsa'; or the suburbs, unless that is what you want - there are some beautiful historic homes in midtown for amazing prices.

Crime is up all over the city. Robbery sprees that have people nervous even on the south side. Per capita it is more dangerous now than Detroit.

It certianly went downhill after the 911 employment drop off, that combined with a spike in the ';undocumented'; population, combined with the police force turning a blind eye (refused to admit) the ';gang'; problem has resulted in what there is now.

The good news is that Oklahoma does have a pretty good process to obtain a concealled weapons permit. If you move there you should get one. You might not notice the problem in every day life, unless you go to a public event such as the Fair or stumble into the wrong neighbourhood. The north part of Tulsa is the worst, but if you go North of Owasso, OK it is much better. I personally would avoid living anywhere inside the city limits.

I moved from Boston to Tulsa a little over a year ago. I bought a house in South Tulsa. I feel very safe in Tulsa. Most of the murders are drug related and in the north part of town. There have been some daytime home breakins in south area. The new was elected on a platform to reduce crime in Tulsa. Great running trails along the Arkansas River and other parts of town and very good running town. Check out www.tulsarunningclub.com , www.tulsarun.com and www.route66marathon.com.

I lived in Tulsa from 1998 to 2006. I worked in the Promanade area for the later part and found that the bad element had taken over in th evenings especially during the summer months. We had a police patrol on those weekend evenings that helped control the gangs but it was hard for us who had shops in the mall. Our customers would not want to shop at night so our sales were slow after 8pm.

Is Tulsa worse than others. Yes, but I think it would depend on if youwere faced with it day in day out how your perception of the problem.
