Looking for a stop along 69/turnpike

I am taking our youth group to Port Arthur, TX and need a stop somewhere around midpoint from Kansas City, MO. If there is some minor inexpensive fun thing to do for the evening, that would be a bonus. It will be late June.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Are you planning on stopping somewhere for the night? Or is this just a short (2 or so hours) stop that you want to spend doing something?

Also, what are your budget restrictions?

:)

Yes, we will be staying the night and yes, we will be looking for some short (a couple hours) place to go/thing to do. Our budget will be pretty small unless we end up doing another fundraiser....which I don%26#39;t anticipate. Thanks for your help!

what town will you be stopping in?

I%26#39;m actually looking for suggestions. I don%26#39;t have much knowledge of the area, so I%26#39;m just looking for some input.

The half-way point on that trip is going to be somewhere around Durant. Southeastern Oklahoma University has a very active summer theater program, which might be operating and interesting when you come through. They have a Microtel, Best Western, Hampton, HI-Express, etc.

If you don%26#39;t want to travel that far, McAlester would be the next town north, where you%26#39;ll find a BW, HI-E and a few more. Unless you want to tour the prison or there%26#39;s a rodeo in town, McAlester doesn%26#39;t offer much that I%26#39;m aware of. A few miles east of town there%26#39;s a nice state park, Robber%26#39;s Cave, which has trails, playgrounds, a lake with rental peddle boats, etc.

Twoprofs,

Thanks so much for your help! One of the state parks sounds perfect. I will check them out.
